BOSS Eddie Howe was satisfied with Cherries’ showing during their first pre-season friendly.

Goals from Jordon Ibe and Max Gradel earned Cherries a 2-1 win over Portuguese top flight outfit Estoril in Marbella on Saturday.

Howe told the club website: “It was a good win. It doesn’t matter what competition it is or whether it’s a pre-season friendly, the aim is to win.

“I thought it was a patchy performance. You expect a little bit of rustiness and I thought that was evident but we improved in both halves towards the end.

“It was important that the majority of the squad who were here and fit played. I have been pleased with the attitude of the players all week.

“It has been a really intense week and very hot. I don’t think we fully appreciate on the sidelines how much that affects everything you do on the pitch but the lads have given their all. Fitness-wise, it was a great exercise.”
