CHERRIES coach Mark Molesley has predicted a bright future for goalkeeper Mark Travers.

Molesley has seen the stopper at close quarters in the club's under-21 squad and has moved to take him on loan to Weymouth where he is manager.

Travers joined Cherries following spells in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and Lucan United.

Molesley said: “I think Travers has a very bright future in the game and this is a first step on the ladder to senior football for him.

“I have high hopes for him and think he has all the attributes to go on to big things.

“It will be a good baptism of fire for him in men’s football but he has all the attributes to cope with that and excel for Weymouth.

“He can handle it and it is going to be a good learning curve for him. We are very lucky to have a goalkeeper of this quality because I think he will be playing a lot higher later in his career. I am really pleased to get him on board.”

Travers, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, signed for Cherries in July 2016 having impressed during a trial period.

“He has international youth caps and is currently in the Irish under-21s set-up,” added Molesley. “He has all the credentials and just needs to get that experience.

“It works both ways. He gets men’s experience and we get a very talented goalkeeper.”
