CHERRIES are reported to be locked in talks with Blackburn Rovers over a deal for winger Connor Mahoney.

The 20-year-old played 14 Championship matches – four of them starts – for Rovers last term but his Ewood Park deal expired at the end of the campaign.

Mahoney has attracted interest from Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough this summer, with Blackburn apparently resigned to losing the player following their relegation to League One.

But according to Sky Sports' sources Cherries have edged ahead in the race to land the young Lancastrian.

He joined Rovers from League Two Accrington Stanley in December 2013 and has been capped by England at under-17 and under-18 level.

Blackburn are entitled to receive a fee for Mahoney, regardless of his contract status, as he is under 24 years of age.
