SPECULATION suggesting Cherries are on the trail of Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is believed to be wide of the mark, the Daily Echo understands.

A number of national publications have credited boss Eddie Howe with an interest in the player, who spent last season on loan at Championship club Barnsley.

The Daily Star reported Cherries had lodged a £6million bid for Kent in an effort to land the 20-year-old ahead of Middlesbrough, who are also said to be keen on a deal for the Lancastrian.

Kent scored three goals in 44 league appearances for Barnsley and had a four-month temporary spell in League One with Coventry City in the 2015-16 campaign.

He has figured only once for his parent club's first team, playing 57 minutes of Liverpool's FA Cup third round tie at Exeter City in January last year.

However, despite the reports, the Daily Echo understands Kent is not a target for Cherries and there is scant chance boss Eddie Howe would become involved in any battle for the player's signature.

Equally, Cherries are unlikely to pursue loan moves for Chelsea pair Lewis Baker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Baker was linked with a season-long switch to Vitality Stadium, with Premier League champions Chelsea aiming to find a club where the England under-21 star could continue his footballing education following two fruitful campaigns at Dutch team Vitesse Arnhem.

Highly-rated Loftus-Cheek, a year Baker's junior at 21, has made only six Premier League starts for Chelsea since he was handed his top-flight debut as a substitute in a match against Manchester City in January 2015.

The Londoner is currently sidelined with a back injury, which prevented him from travelling to the European Under-21 Championship in Poland, where fellow midfielder Baker featured in England's opening draw with Sweden.

Loftus-Cheek is set for a first loan move away from Stamford Bridge, with the west London club aiming to house him at a Premier League counterpart.

Nevertheless, according to sources close to the Daily Echo, neither Baker nor Loftus-Cheek will join up with Cherries.
