WEE Man Ryan Fraser is confident he can shoulder the weight of expectation – providing he is given a chance by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan.

The diminutive Cherries winger is tonight hoping to win his first senior cap when the Tartan Army hosts Canada in a friendly at Hibernian’s Easter Road.

Fraser, who has represented his country at under-19 and under-21 level, is also in the squad for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Hampden Park.

He told the Daily Echo: “I don’t want to go there and just get experience. I want to play and feel I can help the team. I don’t want to just make up the numbers, I want to smash it and I want to win.

“I have been dreaming about this moment for a long time and, when I was younger, it was what myself and my family wanted.

“It just shows that if you keep working hard, it might come one day. Now it has come, I just need to show the manager that I want to play.”

Asked whether he felt he could deal with the expectation on him, Fraser replied: “Eddie Howe expects a lot of me and so does Jason (Tindall) and the lads.

“I always try my best. Sometimes things don’t work out and it’s about how you come back from them and try again.

“I try my best to be confident without being big headed because I am not that type of person. I am not big time, I am just a normal person.”

Fraser met Strachan for the first time in training on Monday and also reunited with assistant Mark McGhee who gave him his debut as a 17-year-old at Aberdeen.

Despite kicking off their qualifying campaign with a 5-1 win in Malta, Scotland are currently second from bottom in Group F after picking up a solitary point from their past three games – including back-to-back 3-0 defeats at the hands of Slovakia and England.

Fraser added: “It is not going too well and there is a lot of pressure on the team. I think the Slovenia game is must win. We are in a tough group with some good teams, especially England.

“If we don’t win this game, it is going to be very hard for us to qualify. If we do win, it would give us confidence for the next game against England in the summer. I really hope we win.”
