CHERRIES midfielder Matt Butcher admitted he had no idea how to celebrate after netting a wonder goal for loan club Yeovil on Saturday.

Butcher, who joined the Glovers at the start of the season, paved the way for their 3-1 victory over League Two rivals Morecambe at the Globe Arena.

He gave them the lead with a stunning left-foot volley in first-half injury-time, which had the pundits purring on Football On 5: Goal Rush on Saturday night.

Butcher had only just come on as a substitute when the ball fell out of the sky and he despatched an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Barry Roche from around 25 yards.

It was even more impressive as it was the 19-year-old’s first touch – and his mum and dad, Sarah and Dave, were in the crowd to see it.

Butcher told Somerset Live: “The game is so sharp that you've got to be ready. You have to prepare as though you’re starting and I did and, luckily, it paid off.

“I saw it pop up in the air and thought I could get a good connection and, luckily, it dipped over the keeper and went in.

“I was just happy that it went in. I thought the keeper was going to touch it so, when it went in, I just didn't know what to do. I just stopped and let everyone come to me.”
