CHERRIES are "set to return" with a bid for Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer.

The Mirror reports Cherries are poised to make an offer for the 29-year-old Bosnian star, a rumoured target of the Dorset club during the January transfer window.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed last month that the club were considering an offer for Begovic, amid reports the Blues were holding out for a £12million fee.

Conte added that Begovic would be allowed to leave if a suitable replacement was found.

However, Chelsea failed in a move for Celtic stopper Craig Gordon and Begovic remained at Stamford Bridge.

The former Stoke man has scarcely featured since joining in an £8m deal from the Potters in the summer of 2015.

He has made only six appearances this season – all of them in cup competitions.

Begovic made nine outings for Cherries during a brief loan spell at Dean Court in 2007, eight of them in League One.

He made his debut in a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest on the opening day of that season, one of two clean sheets he kept during his temporary stay.

The other shutout arrived in a 2-0 home win over Walsall in the Football League Trophy.
