STEVE Cook says Jack Wilshere "can’t believe" the number of refereeing decisions that have gone against Cherries this season.

Eddie Howe’s side had valid penalty claims waved away during their defeat at Arsenal last Sunday when Gunners defender Nacho Monreal handled in the box.

That incident came one week after a penalty area foul on Callum Wilson at Stoke went unpunished by the officials.

"Jack said he used to read about small teams not getting decisions and he’s said to me he can’t believe how true it is," said Cook.

“We got a penalty against Arsenal which could have gone one way or another. But penalties I thought we should have had we didn’t get.

“It might even out over the season. There’s a long way to go so hopefully we’ll get more decisions than not.

“Refereeing is a difficult job but I don’t feel we get as many decisions as we should.

“But it’s easy for me as a player to criticise the ref when he’s made a mistake – I made a bigger mistake in that game (at Arsenal).

“It just shows what a tough job it is, because all eyes are on you and everyone’s waiting for that mistake.”

Another Cherries loanee, Nathan Ake, ended his long wait for action by excelling in the victory at Stoke a fortnight ago.

And the Dutch youngster was superb again alongside Cook in last week’s game at the Emirates.

“Nathan has come into the team and been outstanding," Cook told the Daily Echo. "In the last two games he has arguably been our best player.

“It just shows what a professional he is, because he hasn’t played a lot of football this year.

“It’s a credit to him because he trains well and he’s never, ever kicked up a fuss. He’s a great lad and he’s been really good to play alongside."
