CALLUM Wilson says it was a big deal for him to become Cherries' first-ever goalscorer against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Wilson picked himself up after being fouled by Nacho Monreal to stroke a penalty past Petr Cech.
It was the first time in four competitive matches that Cherries had found the net against the Gunners.
And the striker insisted he had never doubted what the outcome would be when he placed the ball on the spot.
Wilson told the Daily Echo: “It meant a lot to get our first goal against them. I was an Arsenal fan as a kid as well, so that made it even more special.
“I’m confident in my ability – I always thought I’d score. It’s great to score against any Premier League side but especially the big ones.”
Cherries could not capitalise on the chances they created following Wilson’s equaliser and eventually lost 3-1.
Wilson nevertheless claimed his side had been encouraged by the manner in which they competed with their formidable opponents.
“We’re always disappointed in defeat,” he added. “But there are plenty of positives we can take from the game.
“If we were more clinical in the final third we’d have taken something.
“We’ve got another tough game against Liverpool but we’ll be confident of doing well.”
