NEWCASTLE United are lining up a summer move for Callum Wilson if they secure promotion to the Premier League, according to reports in the north east.

Wilson has scored 31 goals since joining Cherries in 2014 and this summer penned a fresh contract to keep him at Vitality Stadium until 2020.

Nevertheless, Magpies boss Rafa Benitez could try to tempt the 24-year-old to follow the path taken by Matt Ritchie, who left Cherries for Newcastle in a £12million deal prior to the start of this season.

Eddie Howe would be loath to lose a player whose 20 league goals in the year following his arrival from Coventry spearheaded Cherries’ Championship-winning campaign.

Wilson has recovered from a serious knee injury to reclaim his place as Howe’s first-choice striker, scoring three times in 10 Premier League starts this term.

He returned to the side in last weekend’s victory at Stoke having missed the defeat by Sunderland with a hamstring problem.

Newcastle top the Championship, five points clear of nearest challengers Brighton, with third-place Reading a further four points adrift of Benitez's team.
