BOSS Tom Prodomo is keen for Bashley to use tonight’s prestigious Hampshire Senior Cup tie against Cherries to showcase the New Forest club’s revival.

The Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit will lock horns with Stephen Purches’s under-21s for a place in the quarter-finals at Bashley Road (7.45pm).

Under Prodomo and a new board, Bashley have embarked on a rebuilding programme following some troubled times – both on and off the pitch – which culminated in relegation from the Southern League last season.

Prodomo, one of numerous managers employed by the previous administration, returned to the hot-seat at the start of this season and has set about establishing a more professional ethos at the club.

He told the Daily Echo: “It is a game we are really looking forward to. We are hoping to get a good crowd in because those type of things are important to the club as we rebuild.

“We have a good relationship with AFC Bournemouth through bits of work I have done with their under-21 staff so, on a personal note, I am looking forward to welcoming them.

“There are a lot of people back around the club who perhaps have not been here for the past few years, for whatever reason.

“We have fantastic people helping every day of the week which is really important to us. When you can’t go out and spend money to fix problems, it is important to have good people who are willing to give their time.

“From my point of view, the new board with Laurence, Steve and Steve have been great in giving me freedom to make the changes we wanted on the football side.

“We are trying to run it as professionally as we can and perhaps go against some of the stereotypes of Wessex League clubs.”

Bashley booked their place in the third round thanks to an eventful 6-5 win over National League Aldershot when they netted four goals in the final 12 minutes.

Cherries, beaten finalists in 2013, set up the trip to Bashley by seeing off Wessex Premier high-fliers Brockenhurst 2-0 in September thanks to goals from Mikael Ndjoli and Mihai Dobre.

Prodomo added: “There is an opportunity for us to take real confidence from this game, particularly off the back of Saturday’s performance in our 4-0 win at Blackfield.

“We have a young but really talented group and one or two aren’t too dissimilar in age to some of the Bournemouth players and might feel they have the quality to be at clubs themselves. So it is a good opportunity to go up against a very well coached side and show just how good we can be as well.”
