CHARLIE Daniels has not given up hope of representing England but the Cherries star insists he is channelling all his energies into his club form.

Daniels sparkled in Cherries’ debut Premier League campaign last season, leading some judges – including Sky Sports pundit and former Dean Court midfielder Jamie Redknapp – to suggest the 30-year-old’s buccaneering displays merited an international call.

Danny Rose and Ryan Bertrand received the nod in Daniels’s left-back position when interim national boss Gareth Southgate named his squad for England’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Reflecting on a potential future call-up, Daniels told the Daily Echo: "I can only control what I do. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I’m just working as hard as I can to try to perform for Bournemouth. That’s all I can do.”

The current international break – which has seen a string of Daniels’s colleagues disappear to various corners of the globe – comes in the wake of Cherries claiming four points from matches with Everton and Watford.

As such, the Londoner is disappointed his team’s momentum will be checked by the lay-off.

"We've had a couple of great games going into the break and maybe it has come at the wrong time,” added Daniels.

“But you know our philosophy, we’ll work hard during these two weeks and come the next game we’ll be firing on all cylinders."
