HARRY Arter is set to miss the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying clash with Georgia on Thursday due to the groin injury he suffered in Cherries' 2-2 draw at Watford.

A scan of the muscle yesterday confirmed the problem was not serious and the Irish still harbour hopes he may feature when the Boys in Green play Moldova on Sunday.

But Republic assistant boss Roy Keane suggested Arter’s absence from a training session today would prevent him from lining up against the Georgians.

"I think the scan was pretty positive but obviously the player himself feels still a bit tight," said Keane.

"If you don't train two days before a game then that is not good news.

"We hope it might settle down in the next few days and he might be available for the second game. But we wouldn't be too hopeful once again."

Another Cherries player, Marc Wilson, has decided to pull out of the Irish squad owing to his lack of football since moving to Vitality Stadium.

The defender has been restricted to two EFL Cup appearances since moving to the south coast from Stoke in a £2m deal in August.

Wilson scored the decisive goal in his team’s 2-1 second-round victory at Morecambe. But he struggled during last month’s third-round clash with Preston, picking up a caution before being withdrawn after 45 minutes of the 3-2 defeat.

Wilson played the full 90 minutes in Ireland’s friendly victory over Oman on August 31. But he has been included in just one Cherries Premier League squad, against West Brom on September 10, when he was an unused substitute.
