BOSS Eddie Howe is expected to make sweeping changes for Cherries’ League Cup second round showdown at Morecambe tonight.

New signings Marc Wilson, Nathan Ake, Brad Smith, Lewis Cook, Lys Mousset and Emerson Hyndman have all been named in the Cherries squad.

Wilson, Smith, Mousset and Hyndman have not featured in Cherries’ first two Premier League games and could be in line for starts against the Shrimps.

Harry Arter will serve a one-match ban following his red card at West Ham on Sunday, while Rhoys Wiggins and Baily Cargill are both sidelined due to injury.

Assistant manager Jason Tindall said: “We have great belief in the squad. We have some fantastic players who have been a little unlucky not to be selected in our first two games. If selected, they will be champing at the bit to deliver a really good performance.

“There will be changes. But when you look at our squad and see the players we have available, it shows how far this club has come with the strength in depth.

“Whatever team is selected we believe is capable of winning and getting us through to the next round.”

Morecambe currently top League Two and earned a crack at Cherries after putting out Rotherham in the first round.

Although supporters face an arduous trip to the north west, Tindall says he is not in favour of regionalising the early rounds of the competition.

He said: “It is a long way for our fans to travel, especially on a Tuesday. Our away support has been fantastic so it is a shame some people won’t be able to make it.

“It is the luck of the draw and, unfortunately, we have been given another away tie. But we went to Hartlepool and Preston last season and got the results we wanted.

“When you are in the lower leagues, these cup draws can transform your season financially. If it were to be regionalised, you could take away the opportunity for teams in League One and League Two to draw Premier League teams.”

Howe and Tindall were at the helm when Cherries were beaten 5-0 at Morecambe’s previous ground in 2009. The Shrimps now play at the Globe Arena.

Tindall said: “We took a real hiding the last time we were there. It felt like we were 3-0 down before the game had even started!”
