Jose Mourinho said the result against Bournemouth was the end of a good week's work after winning the Community Shield at Wembley last Sunday.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, he said: "We prepared well.
"It was a very complete performance and I am happy.
"People know we want to fight for the title."
"I thought at 3-0 the game was over but it wasn't. You make mistakes you get punished.
"We have the players to be competitive in every competition. "
