PROUD Welshman Shaun MacDonald insisted his holiday would not be ruined by an England victory – ahead of 90 gruelling minutes with Three Lions supporter Wes Fogden.

MacDonald, capped four times by Wales, missed out on the squad for Euro 2016 and is set to watch the Group B clash from Portugal where he is currently on a well-earned break with close friend and former Cherries team-mate Fogden.

The fixture – the teams' first meeting in a major tournament – has huge implications with Chris Coleman's side on the brink of the last 16 and England seeking a vital victory following their draw with Russia.

Midfielder MacDonald is adamant he will enjoy the head-to-head in Lens (2pm), despite having to watch it with a member of the opposition camp.

MacDonald told the Daily Echo: "Me and Wes will be watching the game together and I'm sure there will be a bit of banter but, hopefully, no fighting!

"Even though we will be cheering on different teams, I’m sure we will enjoy it. If Wales lose, it might ruin my night but I'm sure it won't ruin my holiday.

"Being a Welsh lad of course I want Wales to win but I'm it will certainly be a really exciting game for both countries."

MacDonald added: “I think it was important for Wales to get off to a good start against Slovakia.

“The win takes the pressure off us and with England conceding a late goal to Russia, it puts us in a good position going into the game.

“Hopefully, we can pick up a positive result and take another step towards the knockout stages.

“Even when there is nothing on it, Wales versus England is always an important game and, hopefully, we can get the job done."

Wales, whose last major tournament appearance was in 1958, have not beaten England in a competitive game in more than three decades.

MacDonald said: “I think both squads will respect each other. They will know our dangers and we will know theirs.

“Gareth Bale can win you a game at any moment but England have some important players who can do the same.

“It’s about going into the game with confidence and I think Wales will have that after winning against Slovakia.

“I think everyone knows how long it’s been since Wales have reached a major championship and there is a lot of pride in the country for what the team has achieved."
