CHERRIES will meet Valencia – one of Spain's most successful clubs – in a pre-season friendly.

Eddie Howe's side are set to host the La Liga outfit on Wednesday, August 3.

Among Valencia's star names are Spanish international Rodrigo, who was signed permanently for 30million euros last summer, former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo and Argentina ace Enzo Perez.

Valencia finished 12th in the Spanish top flight last term and were managed for a spell that season by former England full-back Gary Neville.

Currently bossed by Pako Ayestaran, Valencia have a decorated history having won six La Liga titles and seven Copa del Rey trophies.

Valencia, nicknamed the Oranges, reached back-to-back Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001.

However, the club suffered disappointment on both occasions, losing to Real Madrid and then German giants Bayern Munich the following year.

Valencia secured a league and UEFA Cup double in 2004 with their most notable recent silverware coming in the Copa del Rey in 2008.

Cherries now have four pre-season friendlies inked in.

The Dorset side travel to Portsmouth on Saturday, July 23 and visit Reading on Friday, July 29 before facing another Championship outfit in Cardiff the following day.
