RYAN Allsop penned a new two-year deal at Cherries and then admitted he was desperate to become a regular part of Eddie Howe's first-team plans.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper made his first Cherries league appearance in more than two years and Premier League debut when he replaced the injured Adam Federici at half-time in November's 3-3 draw with Everton.

However, the subsequent return to fitness of Artur Boruc and Federici meant Allsop's matchday opportunities swiftly became limited.

He joined Wycombe on loan in February before twice featuring for Portsmouth in their League Two play-off semi-final defeat to Plymouth, having made the temporary switch to Fratton Park.

Now the former Leyton Orient man has outlined his ambitions for next season and says he will do his utmost to climb the pecking order.

Reflecting on the new deal, Allsop said: “I am really pleased to have it sorted. It’s a weight off my shoulders to get it over the line. I had a good loan spell at Wycombe but now I am very much looking forward to starting pre-season here and, hopefully, hitting the ground running.

“I love living in Bournemouth and love the club so I am delighted to be staying for another two years. Especially with my little boy being eight years old – it’s a good time to settle for me.

“As far as I am concerned, I just want to hit the ground running in pre-season and do as well as I can to force my way up the pecking order.

"I have learned loads off both Artur Boruc and Adam Federici this season but I don’t want to just make up the numbers. I want to push as hard as I can."

Discussing the campaign in general, Allsop added: “It’s been a successful season for me, starting with making my Premier League debut, which was massive. Looking back I’ve got fond memories but that has just given me a taste of it. I want to play as many games as I can at the top level.

“I had a good loan spell at Wycombe. I think we had the second-best defensive record in the league, which was a personal highlight for me.

“The manager has called me a few times and sent me texts here and there whilst I’ve been on loan. I’ve also spoken to Neil Moss every week after the games and gone through things with him.

“I think it’s important for me to go out and get games to build my confidence. I’ve got nearly 100 games under my belt now and I am 23 – it’s all good experience."

Allsop was speaking to the club website.
