CHERRIES skipper Tommy Elphick today jetted off on his stag-do – just days after fearing his holiday plans could have been wrecked.

Elphick and a number of his team-mates have flown to New York to celebrate ahead of his wedding day at the start of June.

But after Cherries’ final game of the season at Manchester United on Sunday had been postponed due to a security alert, they were worried they may have to cancel.

Elphick, who is due to tie the knot on June 4, said: “When we heard the game could have been restaged a couple of weeks after the FA Cup final, we were panicking a bit.

“Myself, Callum (Wilson) and Charlie (Daniels) are all getting married so have got bits and pieces to do.

“It wouldn’t have been ideal waiting a couple of weeks. There are so many things to plan like suit fittings, wedding rehearsals, getting families together and stag and hen-dos.

“Things like that would have been jeopardised but, in the world we live in and the job we do, you always have to be prepared for things like this.

“What happened was a complete shock and nothing can prepare you for something like that. Thankfully, the hierarchies at both clubs and the Premier League managed to get the game played soon afterwards.

“Safety always has to come first and sometimes there are bigger things to life than football.

“It would be easy to look back and say what was all the palaver about but, at the time and when nobody was any the wiser, it was definitely dealt with the right way.”
