CHARLIE Daniels revealed how watching Leighton Baines had helped his ascent to the Premier League and then vowed to follow him onto the international stage.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe used Baines and his partnership with Steven Pienaar as the example for Daniels and left-sided colleague Marc Pugh to follow back in the club’s League One days.

And although Daniels has yet to receive the nod, he remains as determined as ever to push the likes of Baines for a place in England’s plans.

Daniels told the Daily Echo: “When we were in League One and even in the Championship, the gaffer would show me and Pughy clips of how their partnership worked.

“He wanted us to form that kind of bond and I think we have done that. We have played together for a number of years now and have that understanding.

“It is nice to get mentioned alongside great players such as Leighton Baines.

“He has great technical ability and can always find a pass or deliver a cross to find a number 10 from anywhere on the pitch.”

Assessing his season so far, Daniels added: “It is the same every season, you have your highs and lows but overall, I think it has gone really well.

“People talking about me for an England call-up was great because achieving that would be the highest accolade I could get.

“Now, it is up to me to keep pushing, to keep getting better in each game and each season to turn that into reality.

“I needed to improve in every aspect of my game and I have done that but there can be no let up.”
