GRIEVING Cherries star Harry Arter has raised more than £13,000 to help other bereaved families.

The 26-year-old and his fiancée, Rachel, launched the 10-day eBay auction of signed kit and VIP experiences to honour the memory of their daughter Renée.

Just days after Renée was stillborn, Harry put in a man-of-the-match performance against Manchester United.

But away from the glare of media attention, he and Rachel had turned to family-run 4Louis, which supplies memory boxes to those who have lost their babies, and offers crucial support.

All the money raised from the auction will go to 4Louis, and charity trustee Bob McGurrell told the Daily Echo that he was lost for words at the level of generosity.

“I heard about what happened to Harry through the press at the time,” said Bob. “I wasn’t aware that he was a recipient of one of the memory boxes that we supply – but then he got in touch with us and said he wanted to do something positive and give something back.

“He’s created so much more awareness for us. I can’t quite find the words to express how much it means.

“We’re not one of the big charities so we need all the assistance we can get – and we have certainly received that from Harry and the club.

“The club has been fantastic. They couldn’t have done any more putting the message out there, and all the players have been so supportive by donating their kits – they will have made a huge difference to a lot of bereaved parents.”

Among the 41 lots sold was a match shirt worn by Harry, which was won for a bid of £640. Another belonging to Watford captain Troy Deeney, who approached Harry to offer help after their teams played earlier this year, sold for £465.

Bob, whose grandson Louis being stillborn in 2009 prompted his family to launch the charity, added: “It’s doing such a positive thing out of a huge negative.

“I’m sure Harry was at a loss, and it’s something you never get over. He’ll miss Renée no matter how many other children he goes on to have in the future.

“But this hasn’t all been in vain.”
