CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe has thrown his support behind Artur Boruc to don the number one jersey for Poland at Euro 2016.

Lukasz Fabianski finished the qualifying campaign as the White and Reds' first choice but head coach Adam Nawalka used Wojciech Szczesny and Boruc in November friendlies against Iceland and the Czech Republic, respectively.

Boruc, who featured in the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008, could get another chance to impress when Poland host Serbia and Finland in friendlies next month.

The 35-year-old has turned in a string of fine displays for Cherries in the Premier League this term having bounced back superbly from errors against Watford and Tottenham in October.

Asked if Boruc was good enough to play at Euro 2016 this summer, Howe told the Daily Echo: "I think he's good enough, there is no doubt about that. There has never been any doubt about Artur's ability as a goalkeeper.

"For me, he was one of the key reasons why we improved so much last season. I thought he was absolutely crucial in giving us confidence to attack and win games like we did.

"Every career has its ups and downs and it's about how you respond to those downs that is the making of the man.

"Artur has responded so well this season. He has been pivotal for us in recent times. He has made some world-class saves and we are going to need that again between now and the end of the season.

"We are going to need him in his best form to achieve our objectives.

"I've always had a really good working relationship with him and I've always liked him as a person. He's got a big heart and he wants to win."
