SUPERSUB Marc Pugh admitted he had known very little about his 50th career goal for Cherries.

Pugh came off the bench to book Cherries a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup for only the fourth time in their history.

But the Lancastrian said he only realised he had netted a late winner against Portsmouth once the away fans had started cheering.

Pugh, who has hit four FA Cup goals for the club, told the Daily Echo: “The floodlight was in my eye-line and I couldn’t see a great deal.

“I just saw the ball loop up in the air, chucked myself at it and just hoped for the best.

“I didn’t realise it had gone in until everyone started cheering so just headed off and did my usual bad celebration!”

Pugh added: “It shows how far the club has come that we have reached the fifth round.

“A lot of the lads hadn’t played for a few weeks and we had to dig in against a really good Portsmouth side.

“We weren’t at our best in the first half but they pressed us well and played some good football. They deserved to go 1-0 up at the break.

“But we came out in the second half and looked a different team, especially in the last 20 to 25 minutes.

“It is never easy to come in and play a game like that if you’ve had two or three weeks on the sidelines, whether it is injured or just not playing.

“It is high intensity and it doesn’t matter how much fitness work and running you do, nothing compares with being out there on a Saturday. Playing is the best feeling in the world and everyone was champing at the bit."
