CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe believes another rapid rise from the basement to the top flight would be unlikely but not impossible.

Howe was speaking ahead of Cherries’ first Premier League clash with Swansea – a fourth tier fixture just 12 years ago.

The Welsh club narrowly avoided slipping out of the Football League in 2003 before embarking on a journey which saw them climb from the bottom to the top between 2005 and 2011.

It was a feat matched by Cherries and masterminded by Howe during his two spells in the Dean Court hot seat, the first of which started when the Dorset club had been 91st in January 2009.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “It just goes to show the incredible turnaround for both clubs. You never would have seen our rise at that stage and Swansea supporters would probably say the same.

“Both clubs have done it in similar ways and have stuck to a footballing philosophy which has got them huge success.

“Swansea haven’t changed. They have had some tough times in the Premier League and have come out stronger.

“They are a really good club for us to look at in terms of how they have been managed and run. I’ve got a lot of time for them. Of course, we want to beat them but there are a lot of parallels to draw between the clubs.”

Asked if he thought it could ever happen again, Howe replied: “I think it is getting more difficult. The clubs at the top get more and more money and the clubs at the bottom don’t.

“The gulf becomes greater every year. I think it gets harder but that is not to say it is impossible. I would never say that because our rise has taken away that word. As people know with our motto – anything is possible.”

BLOB Charlton interim head coach Karel Fraeye has revealed the Addicks failed in a bid to sign Yann Kermorgant on loan.

The Frenchman, who joined Cherries in a £400,000 move from the London club in January 2014, was a hugely popular figure among Charlton fans.

A report in the South London Press claimed Kermorgant had been heading back to The Valley, only for the deal to fall through due to Cherries' injury crisis.

Fraeye said: "I think Bournemouth are not willing to let him go.

"They have the right, because they don’t have 10 strikers at this moment.

"Yann Kermorgant is a very good striker, we all know that, we could use him very well. But Bournemouth are owners and they will use him. He is playing for them, so it is logic they need him."
