GLENN Murray felt “personal errors” had cost Cherries two precious points as he reflected on an eventful first start for his new club.

The £4million deadline-day signing from Crystal Palace netted his first goal in the red and black but saw a late penalty saved by Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes as the Hornets escaped Vitality Stadium with a 1-1 draw.

Murray was incensed when, with the ball out of play late in the first half, visiting midfielder Etienne Capoue raked his studs down the back of the Cherries striker’s foot, prompting a bout of pushing and shoving.

Referee Michael Oliver eventually defused the situation without brandishing a card but booked Murray for clattering into Capoue minutes later.

Summing up his whirlwind afternoon, Murray said: “I was delighted to get my first Bournemouth goal but disappointed not to convert the penalty. The keeper made a good save and did his job for the afternoon.

“It could have been a lot more enjoyable. It was a good game of football, I thought both sides gave it their all, we probably deserved to win but a couple of personal errors cost us.”

Asked for his view on the Capoue incident, Murray replied: “I think if you watch it back, you can see what I made of it.”

Meanwhile, Murray insisted Artur Boruc had prevented Cherries going behind during the second half, despite his aberration which allowed Watford to equalise.

“He made a crucial save in the second half that kept us in the game,” added Murray. “Hopefully, these things will even themselves out.”

Murray admits he is still getting used to an alternative style of play since making the switch from Selhurst Park but says he is relishing the challenge.

“It is pretty different but I did play in a similar system with Gus Poyet at Brighton,” he continued. “He liked to keep the ball and build attacks so I have come across this in my career.

“It has been brilliant. It is different to Palace but I am getting used to it and enjoying it.”
