CHERRIES are reportedly on the verge of concluding a deal with Napoli for Dutch midfielder Jonathan de Guzman.

The 27-year-old is set to join on a season-long loan ahead of the closing of the summer transfer window.

De Guzman, who spent two years on loan to Swansea in the Premier League, was also thought to be a target for Sunderland, Everton and German outfit Hamburg.

He scored 15 goals in 93 appearances for Swansea between 2012 and 2014, netting twice in their League Cup final victory over Bradford in 2013.

Born in Canada, de Guzman joined Feyenoord as a 12-year-old and progressed through the ranks to make more than 100 appearances for the Dutch club.

After a planned move to Manchester City had fallen through, he signed for Mallorca in 2010 before joining Villarreal for around 8.5million euro in August 2011.

In July 2012, de Guzman reunited with former Mallorca boss Michael Laudrup at Swansea and became a popular figure during his stay at the Welsh club.

De Guzman, capped 14 times by Holland, penned a four-year deal at Napoli 12 months ago but appears not to be part of coach Maurizio Sarri’s plans.
