Boss Eddie Howe felt Baily Cargill’s tenacity against Nantes had encapsulated why Cherries were so keen to secure the rising star’s long-term future.
The 20-year-old defender signed a fresh three-year contract – his fourth new deal inside two years – prior to playing 90 minutes in Saturday’s 0-0 friendly draw against the French side.
And Howe argued the England under-20 international had displayed all the right traits by bouncing back from a below-par first half in St Nazaire.
Howe told the club website: “Baily has proved what a real talent he is. It (Nantes) was a great experience for him because along with the rest of lads, it perhaps wasn’t at his best in the first half but responded with a true Baily performance. We are delighted he has committed his future to us.
“It has been a sharp rise for him but he deserves it. He has put in the hard work, shown a great attitude towards his training and improved every aspect of his game. If he can continue to make those improvements has a very bright future.”
