MANAGER Eddie Howe reckons Tokelo Rantie’s rare opportunity to spend an uninterrupted pre-season with Cherries could do wonders for his on-field fortunes.

The South Africa international striker has struggled to make an impact since his move from Malmo in August 2013 and was restricted to 12 substitute appearances in the Championship last season.

But having witnessed Rantie provide an assist for Marc Pugh and then score from the penalty spot in a 4-1 friendly win over Philadelphia Union, Howe believes his diminutive frontman is ready to reap the rewards of his efforts on the training ground.

Howe told the club website: “Tokelo has followed on from where he has been at in training. He has looked razor sharp, strong and certain aspects of his game have really come on.

“We were really pleased for him to get on the scoresheet and get an assist and it was a good night for him.

“It has been a joy to see him mix with the players this week because it is one of the only times we have been able to bring him with us – usually he is away with South Africa.

“Hopefully, he will now feel more integrated with the squad than he ever has which can only help his form on the pitch.”
