STEPHEN Purches’s young Cherries caught the eye with a series of spectacular goals in last night’s 7-0 thumping of Hamworthy Recreation.

Trialist Jordan Green and midfielder Josh Carmichael both bagged braces in a one-sided contest which Cherries bossed from the outset.

Captain Jake McCarthy opened the scoring within seven minutes, guiding a header back across goal following a well-worked set piece between Mason Walsh and Sam Matthews.

Green, who played Southern League football for Banbury United last season, then bamboozled Rec’s backline with a jinking run and finish to double the lead two minutes later.

A lung-busting run from full-back Jordan Lee helped tee up Green’s second, a swirling first-time hit from 12 yards which sailed inside the near post.

Green teamed up with Joe Quigley to load the gun for Matt Butcher to fire home a ripsnorter after 28 minutes before a brief spell of respite for the hosts.

Substitute Ben Whitfield rattled home a low angled drive on 59 minutes which sparked another flurry of goals.

Within a minute, Carmichael almost burst the net by smacking in a 30-yard piledriver and soon added his second with a deft touch inside Rec’s Sean Bartlett before easing home the seventh.

New loan signing Filippo Costa played 63 minutes at left-back.
