EDDIE Howe has urged Cherries leave a lasting impression on their American audience ahead of tomorrow’s showdown with Philadelphia Union.

Cherries kick off their programme of warm-up matches with a friendly against the club (midnight Wednesday, BST) that has hosted their pre-season preparations for the past five days.

The Dean Court boss admits his charges will be weary after being put through an intense training schedule stateside but remains keen for Cherries to catch the eye.

Howe said: “From our perspective, the trip has had various good points. One is increasing our profile and raising the name of Bournemouth by being here and playing this game.

“We understand not many people in the States will have heard of us and that is part of it. By being here, the name of Bournemouth is travelling quickly so if we can put on a good performance and show everybody what we are capable of then hopefully, that will increase awareness.

“But the important thing from our perspective was the training work we have done. That was always the main aspect of this trip and I have been really pleased so far.

“We have put a lot of work into the players and they are going into the game not in their best shape. They will be slightly tired but, hopefully, still able to produce the type of performance we are looking for at this stage.”

And Howe confirmed that the rigorous regime would result in “wholesale changes” at half-time with each member of the squad set for a run out.

“That’s the stage the lads are at,” he added. “They are not able to play more than 45 minutes at the moment so we will see the whole squad.”

Assessing Cherries’ opponents, who he watched in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Portland Timbers, Howe continued: “We always have a strategy and game plan.

"I wouldn’t say it will be about Philadelphia Union specifically, it will be more about our principles and style of play at this stage.

“But we want to give a good performance so we will certainly be aware of their strengths. They gave an excellent performance right from the start against Portland and I thought they were very good.”
