EDDIE Howe has thanked Cherries’ Greatest Escape heroes for the part they played in helping the club move to within one win of the Premier League.

Howe, during his first spell at Dean Court, staved off a 17-point deduction as Cherries preserved their place in the Football League in 2009.

Tomorrow's visit of Bolton, when victory would all but guarantee a place in the top flight, comes six years after a 2-1 home win over Grimsby put the finishing touches to Cherries securing safety.

Asked about the pressure comparisons, Howe said: “They are totally different scenarios and emotions. Back then, it was just a case of trying to get the job done and looking to the future.

“You kept thinking about the dire consequences and what would happen if we didn’t get the result we wanted. I always said I didn’t want to be the guy to take the club into oblivion.

“Thankfully, I had some amazing players who put those thoughts to the back of their minds and managed to get the job done. We are very grateful to them for being in the position we are in now.

“This should be embraced in a positive way. I know that is easy to say and difficult to do. We need to try to enjoy the challenge we are facing.

“There are no real dire consequences at the end, even if you fail in your mission. The reality is, that doesn’t wash because if we don’t get to where we want to be this season, the emotions would probably be the same as when you get relegated.”
