DEBUTANT Matt Ritchie targeted further Scotland caps after playing a pivotal role in last night's 1-0 win over Northern Ireland at Hampden Park.

Cherries winger Ritchie supplied the corner from which Christophe Berra nodded home in the 85th minute, handing Gordon Strachan’s side victory in the international friendly.

It was a dream bow for Ritchie, who had never previously visited Scotland and had earned eligibility for the Tartan Army through his father and grandparents.

And Ritchie will hope that his contribution will be enough to earn another starting spot when Scotland host Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday.

Discussing his debut, Ritchie said: "It was unbelievable. I was a little bit nervy with the occasion but I felt I grew into the game and was delighted to get the win.

"The assist was a nice bonus. I was just glad to play my part and delighted with the evening.

"It was great to be involved and, hopefully, it will be the first of many.”

Meanwhile, Cherries striker Tokelo Rantie was an unused substitute in South Africa’s 3-1 victory over minnows Swaziland.

Defender Baily Cargill played his first 90 minutes since recovering from a hip injury as England under-20s beat 10-man Mexico on penalties.

Jose Ramirez put the visitors in front at the Hive but Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom levelled from the spot late on.

The Young Lions then won 4-2 in the shootout.
