CRESTFALLEN star Harry Arter refused to revel in his wonder strike at Cardiff City and revealed his only emotion had been "pure frustration".

The Cherries midfielder, 25, marked his return from a one-game ban with rising rocket from 20-plus yards to hand his side a 16th-minute lead in the Welsh capital.

But Bruno Ecuele-Manga's thumping second-half header and a series of decisions by referee Lee Mason that Cherries manager Eddie Howe described as "strange" saw the visitors held to a 1-1 draw.

The Republic of Ireland's latest recruit politely declined to comment on Mason's performance and insisted his own had been of little comfort having missed out on maximum points.

Arter told the Daily Echo: "It was a good finish and one I was happy with but that has been replaced by pure frustration and disappointment that we did not get the three points.

"We felt we should have won the game and the margins were so small. It was shame we came away feeling that certain things had not gone our way because we played well.

"People forget Cardiff are a recently relegated side. We dominated and I was quite surprised with how they played. They were very direct and I had expected them to play more football.

"I felt we stood up to the test other than a lack of concentration for the goal and would take the way we play every day of the week over the route they decided to take."

On his own display, Arter added: "Whoever plays tries to have a positive influence on the team and personally, I took no satisfaction from the game.

"I am just looking towards Saturday now, to get this game out of my head and look forward to what will hopefully be a good performance."
