CHERRIES star Callum Wilson hailed his on-pitch relationship with Yann Kermorgant and targeted a fruitful partnership with every striker at the club.

The duo dovetailed superbly in the 2-1 win over Wolves on Tuesday, Wilson setting up Kermorgant’s early opener before winning the second-half penalty which the Frenchman converted – although Richard Stearman’s foul appeared to be outside the box.

Former Coventry striker Wilson has started 18 league games alongside Kermorgant this season and the 23-year-old revealed he hoped to create a similar bond with the likes of Brett Pitman and Tokelo Rantie.

Wilson told the Daily Echo: “I think me and Yann complemented each other well against Wolves and I’m delighted that he scored a couple and that the relationship is starting to flourish.

“I want to build a partnership with every striker in the team so I can always have a chance of being selected and can make sure the manager is not worried about whether I can play alongside another striker.

“Myself and Bretty is a different sort of combination and I would like to get a good understanding with TK as well. Although we’re two number nines, who’s to say that we couldn’t play together?

“I don’t mind who I play alongside as long as we are playing well and winning games.”

A runaway success since joining Cherries in the summer, Wilson has 18 goals to his name this season.

And although the England under-21 international has failed to register in his past five outings – his joint-longest barren spell in a Cherries shirt – he is confident the tide will soon turn.

He continued: “It’s not about me. I’ve been five games without scoring before this season. I’m due one, I know that.

“I don’t really get up tight and start panicking. Once you get one, you know they will start flying in and you relax a bit more.

“Against Wolves I got an assist and won a penalty for the team so I was delighted about that. Although I didn’t score, I felt I put in a good shift. It’s about the team and if I’m contributing in some sort of way then that’s all I can do.

“I’m happy that we’re back to winning ways, because the long-term goal is a team goal, not an individual one.”
