CHERRIES star Harry Arter is hoping a spell of overtime will pay handsome dividends as he bids to improve his goalscoring record.

Arter netted his second goal of the season to pave the way for Cherries’ comeback victory against Wolves at Molineux last weekend.

His thunderous drive from 20 yards, which took a slight deflection, saw Cherries draw level before Matt Ritchie popped up with the winner.

Arter, who has been ever present in the Championship this season, has notched five goals in the second flight, including a stunner in Cherries’ Sky Sports-televised draw at Watford in September.

The midfielder’s equaliser at Wolves was his 20th career goal, with Arter having registered eight as Cherries clinched promotion to the Championship in 2012-13.

Arter told the Daily Echo: “I have played the majority of this season in a midfield two and it is harder to get on the scoresheet.

“I only need two more goals to better last season’s tally so that is something I can aim for and, if I only score four, I will have to take one positive from it!

“In all seriousness, I know I need to get more goals and it is something I am working on. I have been working hard after training on different techniques.

“The goal I scored against Wolves wasn’t the technique I have been working on. I have been working on side-footing the ball in but it was another laced goal.

"It doesn’t matter how they go in and I was pleased to score.”
