FRONTMAN Yann Kermorgant insisted style and substance could be married and said Cherries would be best-served to stick with an eye-catching approach.

Cherries put on an all-action show for a sell-out crowd against Ipswich Town on Saturday with a moment of Gallic flair from Kermorgant – a superb scissors kick – lighting up an entertaining contest.

The stunning effort was witnessed by the striker’s parents Jerome and Francoise, who had made a rare trip to Dean Court from Vannes in Brittany, but they did not see their son taste victory.

Despite dominating possession and unleashing 23 shots to the visitors’ 10, Eddie Howe’s side had to be content with just a point.

However, Kermorgant was adamant that Cherries would not change their crowd-pleasing style and added that Howe’s passing philosophy would pay off in the long term.

He told the Daily Echo: “I think you can play well and get results at the same time.

“We can’t win every game in a season. None of the teams in the Championship can do that but we have a philosophy and I think we have to keep playing how we like, even if sometimes we are not rewarded with a win.

“Playing ‘hoof-ball’ is not our game so we can’t change. We will continue to play as we are and I’m sure we will get lots of points.

“I think the game showed us how good we can be this season and that we can have high expectations from the squad. We have got such good players that have quality and we are working hard together.”

Kermorgant opened the scoring in the second minute when he slammed home Simon Francis’s cross with an acrobatic effort.

And he admitted that the spectacular strike was far from a one-off. The former Stade Reims man continued: “I’ve scored a few overhead kicks and I think that was maybe my fourth or fifth as a professional. For Bournemouth, it is definitely the best goal I’ve scored.

“I know I am able to stretch my legs and do overheads because I have done it before and I hope I will do it again.

"It is all about your body position and the way the ball arrives. It was a driving ball from Franno and it was behind me, so the only chance I had was to do an overhead, which was a good decision in the end.”
