DEFENDER Baily Cargill was an unused substitute as England under-20s triumphed against their Portuguese counterparts today.

The Cherries youngster had hoped to be selected to start by national boss Aidy Boothroyd for the second time in six days having made an explosive entrance on the international scene last week.

Cargill bagged a late goal in the 2-2 draw against Canada at Dean Court and subsequently journeyed to Portugal with his team-mates.

However, the 19-year-old had to be content with warming the bench in Coimbra as England secured a 4-3 triumph on penalties.

Southampton left-back Matt Targett opened the scoring in the 29th minute and after Gelson Martins equalised on the hour mark, England edged through on spot kicks.

Cargill has yet to make a Championship appearance for Cherries since being elevated to the first team at the start of the season.

However, he has starred in the run to the League Cup quarter-finals, playing his part in three clean sheets out of a possible four.
