BAILY Cargill admits he has half an eye on next month’s mouth-watering League Cup tie with Liverpool but insists his Championship ambitions are the current number one priority.

The 19-year-old has featured in all four League Cup successes this season and Cherries have conceded just one goal in the six hours the centre-back has been on the pitch.

Victories over Exeter, Northampton, Cardiff and West Brom set up a home quarter-final with top-flight giants Liverpool on Wednesday, December, 17 (7.45pm).

However, Cargill, who is set to make his England under-20s debut against Canada at Dean Court tonight (7.30pm), was keen to emphasise that his most pressing aim was to secure his first league appearance for Cherries having twice been an unused substitute in August.

He told the Daily Echo: “The League Cup is a good way for me to play competitive games for the first team and the longer we’re in it, the better for me, because it means I get more chances.

“My confidence is the best it’s ever been at the moment and I just want to take every game in my stride and make sure I keep playing well.

“Liverpool is a big game for me and I’d like to think I’d play but in the meantime I want to see if I can play in the Championship, so that’s more important for me at the minute.”
