CHERRIES hotshot Callum Wilson admits he may have to fulfil his Premier League aim before mounting a case for an England call-up.

The 22-year-old striker has been a revelation at Dean Court since making the switch from League One Coventry City in the summer.

Wilson has hit 11 goals in 17 appearances and his latest effort against West Brom on Tuesday handed Cherries a berth in the League Cup quarter-finals for the first time.

He told the Coventry Telegraph: “Every player wants to play international football at some stage in their career.

“Getting to the Premier League is more of a target right now because once you get there, that’s when you really get a chance to be considered, rather than in the Championship where players get overlooked more.

“If I can get to the top flight, hopefully with Bournemouth, and do well there, that can bring perks like an England call-up one day. If that ever happened it would be a massive bonus and highlight to my career.

“I’ve never played for my country at any level. I was talked about at under-16 level and was put on stand-by but I got injured so it wasn’t meant to be at that time.

“I think I can play for the 21s because I was born in 1992 but I don’t think I’m in with a shout at the minute because they’ve got good players a year younger than me who are in the Premier League.”
