BOSS Eddie Howe singled out goalkeeper Artur Boruc for special praise following his vital contributions during Cherries’ 1-0 win over Charlton.

The giant stopper preserved Cherries’ lead when he pulled off a stunning save to keep out Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s first-half free-kick.

And Boruc, who is on loan from Southampton, also made a smart stop to deny Lawrie Wilson deep into added time.

Howe said: “At 1-0, every team would back themselves to get a chance in the game to get a point and that is how football goes.

“The key thing for us is that the one at the end wasn’t an easy chance. It was on an angle and our goalkeeper made a good save.

“Goalkeepers win you points just as much as goalscorers. The first save was world class, the second one he probably would have expected to save.

"That is where his importance comes to prominence and he has made a really big impression since coming in.”

Boruc has kept three clean sheets in five appearances since being drafted in last month, the Pole having signed for Cherries at least until January.

The 34-year-old told the Daily Echo: “We probably should have won by more than one goal but it was a great performance.

“With age, it is getting a little easier to stay focused in a game. Making saves is my job. The main thing is winning and I love keeping clean sheets.”
