DAN Gosling is keen to make permanent the tag of goalscoring midfielder as he bids to fire Cherries up the Championship table.

With four goals in seven appearances, the former Newcastle and Everton man has a better strike rate per game than Cherries top scorer Callum Wilson.

Gosling had previously not found the net more than three times in a season but he has enjoyed a fruitful time in front of goal in the League Cup this term.

The 24-year-old scored in wins over Exeter and Northampton before bagging a brace in the 3-0 triumph at Cardiff in the third round.

Asked if he had ever been perceived as a goalscoring midfielder, Gosling told the Daily Echo: “That’s what I want people to say and, hopefully, I can keep getting forward and chip in with a few goals.

“Four goals is a good record to have. It’s a part of my game that I’d like to do more of. I like getting forward and getting on the end of crosses.

“Fortunately, I’ve had a few that have dropped nicely to me this season and, hopefully, there are many more to come and we can keep winning.

“Throughout my career I seem to have had a lot of chances fall to me – whether that’s the timing of my runs or something else, I’m not too sure, but I want to keep doing the same things.”

  • Cherries development squad keeper Benji Büchel was an unused substitute as Liechtenstein held Montenegro to a shock 0-0 draw in Euro 2016 qualifying on Thursday.

First-choice keeper Peter Jehle was substituted due to injury in the 62nd minute but Cengiz Biçer was given the nod ahead of Büchel.

Liechtenstein are next in action in Sweden tomorrow, while Artur Boruc and Tokelo Rantie could feature for their respective countries today.

Boruc’s Poland are at home to world champions Germany in Euro 2016 qualifying while Rantie’s South Africa are away to Congo in an African Nations Cup qualifier.
