STOPPER Artur Boruc hopes a loan stint at Dean Court can help him displace Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny in the Poland national team.

The Southampton man, who made his debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Watford, will remain with Cherries until January.

Boruc’s last international appearance came when Poland defeated Lithuania 2-1 in a friendly in June, but he was substituted for Szczesny at half-time.

The Gunners keeper was subsequently preferred for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar which the Poles won 7-0 and Boruc is keen to earn his spot back.

Discussing his move to Dean Court, Boruc told the Daily Echo: “I’m an ambitious guy and that’s the reason I’m here.

"I’m not the type of guy who will sit on the bench and watch others.

“I would like to be in the national team and that will not be the situation if I am not playing. The manager (Adam Nawalka) preferred Wojciech Szczesny last time and that’s why I want to play (club football) again.

“With the situation I’m in, it helps me to play every week. I did not have many chances back in Southampton and Bournemouth is not far from there.

"I thought about my kids when I made the decision and for me, life will stay the same. I am doing what I love and that’s the main thing.”

Boruc, who would not be drawn on his long-term future, was upbeat about what he had seen from his new team-mates at Watford.

He added: “I felt we were worth all three points but it is a tough place to come. The team want to play football and have a great style.

The passion they have for playing football is quite impressive as well, so I’m really happy I am here.”
