HARRY Arter knows Cherries must find a solution for conceding cheap goals as they look to get their Championship challenge back on track.

Midfielder Arter was speaking after Jordan Bowery’s late equaliser for Rotherham had earned the Millers a 1-1 draw at Dean Court on Saturday.

Cherries were left to count the cost of surrendering the lead for a second home league game in succession as they lost further ground on the early-season pacesetters.

Steve Cook’s headed opener after 60 minutes looked destined to win the points for Cherries, only for Rotherham substitute Bowery to level deep into stoppage time.

Arter told the Daily Echo: “It was one of those games where we got the lead and were quite comfortable. I don’t want to be too disrespectful to them but they only really had one game plan and that was to bang the ball forward and I felt we dealt with it quite well.

“We knew they would be dangerous at set-pieces and I felt that was the only way they were going to score. As the manager said after the game, we can’t afford to lose our runners and make individual mistakes because, ultimately, it cost us so it was disappointing.

“I don’t want to be too negative but we need to cut out individual errors and, rightly so, the manager was not happy about it.

“I can’t think of a goal we have been given this season and every one we have scored has been down to good football and good play, as was the case today.

“But we seem to be giving away goals which we didn’t do at the end of last season when we had a great run and we need to get that out of our game sooner rather than later.

“If you look at the Nottingham Forest and Rotherham games, we dominated both but lost five points. If we had cut out the silly mistakes, we would be sitting near the top of the table.”

Arter was instrumental in the move which saw Cherries take the lead, his slide-rule pass to Matt Ritchie allowing the winger to cross for Cook to head home at the far post.

He added: “We knew teams would be more prepared to play against us this season. Rotherham came with a game plan and tried to frustrate us.

“They conceded the game in terms of possession and knew we were a better football team and we need to understand that now.

"Teams are not going to come here and try to play us at our own game so we will have to try to win another way. We need to be cute and realise that and, providing we do, I am sure we will get more positive than negative results.”
