DEFENDER Steve Cook said Cherries could offer “no excuses” after conceding a careless late equaliser during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Championship newcomers Rotherham.

Cherries were caught napping as Paul Taylor’s stoppage-time corner was hoisted into the danger zone where Millers substitute Jordan Bowery was on hand to nod home from close range.

The goal cancelled out Cook’s headed opener for Cherries, the 23-year-old doubling his tally for the season following good work involving Matt Ritchie and Harry Arter.

Cook said: “It was very frustrating. It seems we are finding a way to concede every week at the moment and that is the hardest thing to take because we worked all week on defending set-pieces and were undone by one in the 93rd minute.

“I thought Matt Derbyshire was offside from the ball from Alex Revell in the lead up to the corner. I haven’t seen it again but that was my initial thought.

“But that was irrelevant because there were no excuses for conceding what was a poor header.

“It was poor defending because we were set up for it and we still conceded.

“I can’t remember the last time we lost two points to a goal in the last minute and losing after taking the lead against Nottingham Forest was the first time that had happened for a while.

“It is something we need to put right and quickly because we should be winning these home games.

"It was difficult because they had 11 men behind the ball. It was hard to find holes and positive passes but it is something we need to work on because teams are going to come here and do that.

“It was really neat play and a great ball from Matt for our goal.

“I have been working hard on trying to score more but it would be nice to get one which actually wins a game. It is always nice to score but it would have been nicer to have won.”
