ROTHERHAM manager Steve Evans pulled off one of the surprise deals of transfer deadline day when he secured Luciano Becchio on loan from Norwich.

Evans supplemented a busy summer in the transfer market by tying down the Argentine forward until January 1.

Leeds, Charlton and reportedly Sheffield Wednesday were interested in signing the 30-year-old, who enjoyed a profitable five-year spell at Elland Road until January last year.

However, after moving south-east to link up with the Canaries, Becchio found his opportunities limited and switched to the New York Stadium to gain regular football.

The striker’s arrival came alongside that of 20-year-old Oldham forward Jonson Clarke-Harris for a club record fee.

Clarke-Harris had scored nine goals in 55 appearances for the Latics and signed for a figure believed to be in the region of £300,000.

Evans will hope that the arrival of the duo will supply valuable firepower for his side as they attempt to remain in the Championship following promotion from League One last season.

Rotherham are currently 17th in the table with six points from five games and are yet to draw a single match in any competition.

Cherries last encountered the Millers in League Two in 2010 when a double from Danny Hollands and a goal from Brett Pitman secured a 3-1 away win.
