DEVELOPMENT boss Stephen Purches could field a handful of youth team stars as Cherries kick off their inaugural league campaign at Luton Town today (1pm).

With several squad members in first-team action for their respective loan clubs, Purches has drafted in Jordan Lee, Jack Simpson, Matt Neale and Joe Quigley for the trip to Kenilworth Road.

Aristide Bassele yesterday became the latest up-and-coming player to secure a temporary switch when he re-joined Conference outfit Welling United, the club he enjoyed a brief spell with last season.

Jayden Stockley (Cambridge United), Josh Wakefield (Torquay), Josh O'Hanlon (Poole), Callum Buckley (Dorchester) will all play elsewhere but Purches is more than happy for his charges to seize their chance of senior action.

Purches told the Daily Echo: “Those on youth loans are eligible to play for us as well but they're all out there to learn about senior football so their clubs will take priority.

“We will take a young team to Luton and it should be a good experience. The great thing about this league is you can give players a chance to take that next step in terms of quality and the physical strength you need to progress.

“Each team will be using different strategies. Some will put in the kids while others will bring in senior players who don't play on a Saturday.

“There will be a real range in terms of the strength of teams so it will be interesting to see how we adapt from game to game because it will be a completely different challenge each time.”

On Bassele's move, Purches added: “Welling asked to take him again so he must have impressed last time. That level will provide a stern test so it should be a good move for him.”
