EUNAN O’Kane insists boss Eddie Howe’s measured approach to management is at the core of the healthy dressing room at Cherries.

The 24-year-old midfielder was signed by Shaun Brooks and Paul Groves in the summer of 2012 but quickly established himself as a first-team fixture following Howe’s return from Burnley two months later.

O’Kane played every minute of Cherries’ five league fixtures before the international break as the club picked up seven points from a solid start to their second season in the Championship.

The transfer window came and went without any further departures despite a hive of speculation over the future of several Cherries stars.

And O’Kane revealed that the manager’s considered style had been a crucial factor in keeping the club's prized assets happy – through good times and bad.

O’Kane told the Daily Echo: “He’s not the sort of manager that comes in roaring and shouting when things go wrong and like the rest of the lads, I appreciate and respect that.

“I have been in dressing rooms where that has taken place in the past and from my point of view, it never did anything for me as a player.

“What does it do for the manager? It might let off a bit of steam to shout at someone but that’s about it.

“Thankfully, that’s not the way the manager here operates, he’s very composed and lets you know when he’s not happy and why without losing his rag.

“You can tell by the tone of his voice when something’s not right and in my time here there has never been anything kicked cross the dressing room in anger and no slanging matches have taken place.

“He lets you know what he expects in a calm, controlled way and I think that relates to his mentality on football.

“That’s the way he is round us and with everything else he does at the club and it works well.”
