CHERRIES were last night aiming to complete a deal for Ryan Fraser – the teenager who has been likened to Scottish football’s legendary wing wizards.

The 18-year-old was understood to have held talks in Dorset yesterday after Cherries reportedly agreed a fee of around £350,000 with Aberdeen.

Should Cherries manage to thrash out personal terms and put the finishing touches to the potential transfer, it would be seen as a major coup as the coveted Fraser has been compared with some of his country’s greats.

Former Scotland manager Craig Brown, currently in charge of Aberdeen, has previously mentioned the gifted 5ft 4in wide man alongside two heroes of yesteryear – Jimmy Johnstone and Willie Henderson.

Late Celtic star Johnstone help-ed the club win a host of domestic honours and the 1967 European Cup, while Rangers’ Henderson collected a large haul of silverware during his time at Ibrox.

Discussing hot prospect Fraser during his rise to the Aberdeen first team, Brown told the Evening Express: “When you watch Ryan in full flow, you can’t help thinking how Jimmy Johnstone and Willie Henderson used to thrill fans doing the same sort of stuff.

“It is still early days for Ryan, but it is clear he has the same natural talent that helped make Jimmy and Willie such huge stars.

“What is even better about Ryan, though, is he can make good use of the ball with either foot.”

Fraser, who has also been described as a “real crowd pleaser”, was among the spectators for Cherries’ FA Cup clash with Wigan on Tuesday.

Discussions over personal terms were believed to have got under way yesterday after the young hotshot, who is out of contract at the end of the season, recently rejected the offer of a new deal at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen, who are said to be keen to cash in as they are resign-ed to losing the gifted prospect, would be entitled to £250,000 in compensation this summer.

But Cherries are believed to have jumped to the front of the queue by agreeing a fee this week and being given permission to talk to Fraser, who has also been linked with Huddersfield and Swansea City.

Speaking yesterday, Aberdeen boss Brown told Sky Sports: “It is not a given he will go there.

“It is clear we will be looking for more money than we would be entitled to at the end of the season. What happens next is between Ryan, his agent and Bournemouth.”

In keeping with his pre-transfer window vow, Cherries boss Eddie Howe has declined to comment on all speculation over potential signings, including Fraser when asked by the Daily Echo.

Speaking to the Echo at the end of December, Howe said: “From our side, we will not be talking about a deal until it is done or, if indeed, there are any deals to be done.”
