Cherries: Demouge scotches Holland return suggestions

ON TARGET: Frank Demouge scored Cherries' opener this afternoon ON TARGET: Frank Demouge scored Cherries' opener this afternoon

CHERRIES striker Frank Demouge has hit back at claims he is keen to return to Holland following an indifferent start to his career in English football.

Demouge, who netted his first goal for Cherries in a 4-1 win over Bristol Rovers in a friendly at Goldsands Stadium today, has made just two appearances since his much-publicised arrival.

The 30-year-old was unveiled as the club’s marquee signing when he joined on a two-year deal from FC Utrecht in the summer, only to miss the start of the season due to a knee injury.

Handed his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Walsall in September, Demouge then sustained a nasty facial injury during the early stages of Cherries’ 3-1 reserve at Crawley, Paul Groves’s final game as manager.

And in an interview earlier this month for Voetbal International – a Dutch football magazine – Demouge was quoted as saying a loan move to the Netherlands in January would be an option.

But speaking to the Daily Echo today, Demouge said: “They asked me whether going to Willem II or NEC would be an option if Bournemouth wanted me to go on loan and I said they would.

“But I also said, and they didn’t put it in the story, that I was feeling good at Bournemouth and that I wasn’t finished here. I want to repay the club for signing me and I want to show the fans what I can do. That is why I’m here.”

Demouge, who was also reported as saying he sometimes felt like a tourist, added: “If you are injured and walking around the town and people don’t recognise you, like they would in Holland, you do have that feeling. I don’t want to feel like that.

“Sometimes, maybe my English is not that good and people will write some wrong words. Maybe they put things wrongly in the paper.

“I don’t care what they write or say about me. I know what I want, I know I’m not finished here and I want to show the people of Bournemouth what I can do.”

Demouge, named in a strong starting line-up against Bristol Rovers, opened the scoring with a clever back-heel finish following a neat one-two with Brett Pitman on the stroke of half-time.

Pitman saw his second-half penalty superbly saved before Christchurch teenager Harry Cornick, who joined Cherries yesterday for a week’s trial, netted with a well-taken right-foot strike to double their lead.

Jordan Chiedozie and Lorenzo Davids were also on target for Cherries, while Elliot Richards scored a consolation for a youthful Rovers team.

Cherries: Jalal, Case, Cook (Gilkes, 70), Partington, Davids, McDermott, O’Kane (Cornick, 70), Hughes (Carmichael, 10), Fogden, Demouge, Pitman (Chiedozie, 60).

I really wanted to see this match and searched the AFCB website for info, in the end i called the ticket office, to be told that the next match was Colchester(?), I asked the ticket office to check and was then told it was the BIC I was speaking to...the helpful lady then called the club for me....she advised that unless the match was being played on the practice pitches , that it was not open to the public...oh well....i then found out later that fans had been allowed into the stadium to watch the match.

GET A GRIP AFCB AND LOOK AFTER YOUR FANS.

The match venue and supporters info were released on cherries twitter at 11.52 this morning.
Apparantly Richard Hughes felt a tightness in his hamstring and was replaced as a precaution. UTCIAD.

All reserves games should be advertised well in advance and made free entry to all season ticket holders. This would obviously increase the crowd and revenue e.g. club shop and catering. Hopefully it would go some way to increase season ticket holder numbers too. It wasn't that long ago I remember 2,000 plus watching AFCB v Arsenal reserves on a Tuesday night.

demouge and Davids both have proven track records in the Dutch top flight which is probably equivalent to our championship, and last season davids played regularly for ausburg in the german top flight. writing these players off is crazy. anyone who was at the Leyton Orient game will have seen that Davids was head and shoulders above every other player.

i think davids will come good but am a bit suspect about demouge he might have scored one but it certainly wasnt a great performance today his first touch was poor and lack of motivation it might well be just lack of match fitness

Back in the early 70's we won the combination (reserves) league. One reserve match I attended we had 4000 there. Peter Feeley, and John Parsons scored goals for fun, and the main midfield men were Dennis Longhorn and Jim De garis. Anybody else remember that team?

He certainly did... John Sainty. Came to us from Spurs for around £12000 which was a fair old sum for Bournemouth in those days.
(I believe we only paid £10,000 for Macdougall and £20,000 for Boyer both from York City).

"Dainty" the fans nickname for him. He also scored a hat trick for the first team, at Aldershot I believe.

The record reserve crowd goes back further than people have so far mentioned. On 7 November 1953, Boscombe reserves played Spurs reserves in the semi-final of the Combination Cup. The attendance was 8,137. Spurs won 1-0. The Boscombe team was Bird ; Cunningham, Fisher ; Neave, H.Hughes, Thompson; Littlejohn, Buchanan, Newsham, Martin, Waugh.

The Spurs team included Baker, Hopkins, Marchi and Harmer. Bennett scored their goal.

Yes, I was there.

I was there at Aldershot. One of the first away games my father took me to. Sainty's second was a cheeky knock the ball out of he 'keepers hand and tap it in to the net. Likely you'd be booked for that sort of thing these days!!

Talking about Aldershot Reserves, our record attendance for a Reserve Match was against them, just under 22,000. There was a huge inducement of course, you could only buy a ticket for the Cup Match aganst Manchester United by attending that game. So the best of luck on Saturday and maybe draw Manchester United in the next round. An intelligent player John Sainty, played in a deep lying Cntre Forward for us, the fashion at that time.

Unbelievable, there is always something some on here find to moan about, the game was advertised and as in advance as it could have been, surely people who can find this website and post on it are more than capable of looking at the clubs site where it was all over the front page?? As for Demouge, well hopefully he will come good, I have my doubts but you never know, these players Davids included might be that added something that gets us over the line in the new year when the season hot's up, they should never have been signed as they were that was a mistake, it's taking weeks to get them match fit, what was Groves thinking when he played them against Walsall? desperate acts by the condemned man!! We saw glimpses of Davids and he looked half decent for the 10 minutes he was fit and big Frank won the ball in the air, I hope they can prove themselves here, can't think why anyone wouldn't want them to?

Advance advertising for Development squad games seems to be virtually non-existent.

Admission was free to all yesterday.

It's hard to comment too much on demouge as played so little (i did see him at winchester and briefly crawley) but was struck in pre-match warm ups that i have seen since the quality of his shooting was a notch above most of the team. Would like to see him fully fit and given a run out since offers us something different up front given Fletch's long career coming to an end. Could still be a big asset for us.

Sorry but I have to say once again, it was on the clubs website, I knew about it a couple of days before the game and they were then saying they would let the fans know on the day which pitch it was going to be played on, I can't see what the problem is here, a reserve game advertised on the clubs website. One thing is for sure it's there to see at the click of a button unlike these games when we got 4000 for reserve games, it's not the advertising that is stopping anyone from going to these games!

It's just a small point but John sainty came to us after a few years with Reading. He did his schoolboy and early stuff at Spurs.
