CHERRIES have tonight confirmed the loan signing of Brett Pitman.

Pitman, who left Dean Court in 2010 to sign for Championship outfit Bristol City, is expected to put pen to paper on a permenant deal in January.

His expected return was first mooted by the Daily Echo following Eddie Howe's return as manager in October.

The Jersey-born striker's return to Dorset could see loan star Lee Barnard return to parent club Southampton in January.

Pitman's arrival could co-incide with the departure of Wes Thomas, who is understood to have submitted an official transfer request.

The ex-Cheltenham striker, who joined Cherries from Crawley in September 2011, is believed to be a target for Championship outfit Blackpool.

New Blackpool manager Michael Appleton is an admirer of Thomas having taken the striker on loan when he was in charge at Portsmouth earlier this season.

And although Cherries boss Howe would be relcutant to let Thomas go, it is understood the 25-year-old sees his future elsewhere and is keen to leave.

Thomas may be allowed to go on loan ahead of Thursday's deadline and would almost certainly command a fee should the move be made permanent in January. 

Meanwhile, Cherries have also confirmed this evening that winger Marc Pugh has signed an improved three-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2016.

Pugh contract is excellent news & shows the whole positive affect Eddies return has had on the Club; Playing Squad & and individual players. We know Mark has ambitions & in signing has indicated his confidence in achieving them here. This 'signing' is as good as any we have made in the last 12 mths.

If Eddie can work similar magic on Brett, we can also have a prolific League 1 striker on our hands again.

Feel sympathy for Barnard who works hard but has not found the net as often as we would like. (Probably tonight he will net a couple!).

Further positive support from the Board. Onward & upward! UTCIAD!!!

Could it be that Eddie's going to try to assimilate parts of his old team into this new squad that he has inherited from Bradders and Groves - if he does and he gets it to work we would have one heck of a team - watch out League One come January is all I can say - UTC!

Looks like there could be an exodus in january starting with Matt Tubbs, who clearly does not fit into Howe's plans.
£800,000 for a few appearances has to be the worst, and most expensive, waste of money in the club's history.
Personally, I feel sorry for Tubbs who has never been given a decent run in the team to show if he can make the grade in league 1.

A price tag does not guarantee success. We're no longer a bankrupt club, and if this investment is to remain constant we may have a few more big money signings whom don't work out.

There may yet be a place for Tubbs in the team, I do hope he is given a run out. Great news about todays singings. VEry happy and sorry I'm not at the match tonight.

Wow! Pugh signing is the best news I've heard all year! What a signing!
And the return of Brett as well!
Really have to pinch myself!
All this and our great current form in just a couple of months, what a turnaround! Thank you Eddie howe!
And have to say thank you to the board for the part you've played.
Now stop all the moaning! what money we've wasted ect ect to many players ect just sit back and enjoy the ride and get yourself, friends and family down to dean court as often as possible to enjoy some great football. Let Eddie Howe do the worrying, he gets paid to and does a pretty good job of it don't you think! In Eddie we trust!

See Eddie Howe signed Puch after all!! Very good news all round. They came prepared and fair dos they kept the ball from going in their net. A point could be very important when it comes to late April

Just got back from the game. Some breathtaking football played, especially 2nd half. We did everything but win the game. Great game from Arter and Pugh, very good game from McDonald and Daniels. Just a shame about the goal. Credit to Stevenage, they defended very well, but on another day it could have been 4-1.

Tubbs has to stay for me! I would rather see Thomas go, would like to keep Barnard and sorry to say give Fletch less as whatever happens from here on in he won't be around playing next season. I would hope to think that player's are loaned out before just flogging them with a 24 hour recall clause just in case.

Addison has to be dropped he is the weak link at the back...... he blames nearest player to him when he f.cks up! I think Tubbs and Barnard are worth a go up top to be honest. Tubbs is out and out goalscorer. ....

Totally agree. It surely must be that that's holding him back. No brainer otherwise.

Addison I'm sorry to say is a liability. How can a bloke who towers above and out muscles everyone else fail to win headers that cookie would eat up. Great chance to make amends this eve but puts a free header well wide.

Great news re Pitman and Pugh signing extn.

Good point tonight, well battled guys. We caught their keeper and defence on a stormer of a night unfortunately.

I think Tubbs is unlucky at this moment in time, it's clear he's a quality player , his style of play doesn't fit in with Grabbon, if Fletch was in the starting line up every time Tubbs would be also, soon after Tubbs come on Grabbon prevented him from attacking the goal by getting in his way, soon after that Daniels ploughed through five players from the halfway line but scuffed the shot when Tubbs was in the 18 yd box in acres of space screaming his lungs out for the easy knock through. For me Tubbs is doing all the right things but needs time and luck, when I say tie I mean game play and time. No Tubbs, no point on this occasion.

For me Tubbsy is the ideal supersub. I admit that we shouldn't have paid £800k for a sub, but thats done now. If we are losing, drawing especially at home, Tubbsy is ideal to throw on in search of a goal. He's done it a few times already, he just sits in the box and waits for an opportunity. For me, I'd have Pitman, Grabban, Tubbs, Demouge (could be good player when fit), Fletch (+McQuoid on RM)

Thomas isn't required, Barnard isn't worth his wage and Sheringham isn't going to be good enough for Higher League 1 level

The team has improved a great deal since the return of EH but he's obviously not a great fan of Tubbs. However, given the chance, Tubbs can get goals, he's always looking to get in the box and is where you want your strikers to be. His link-up play is good so I hope EH doesn't poke him on in January. Let Thomas, Sherringham & Barnard go. Also Cook is also being overlooked in my view. Thanks to EH we are looking like the real deal and our attacking play is fantastic, with a bit of composure and luck we could of beaten Stevenage for sure.

Great game last night did well to come back against such a big physical side their manager must come from the Tony Pulis School of Excellence wouldnt like to have to watch that every week.Inspired substitution Barnard needs packing off back up the road pronto.Disappointing crowd thought at least 6500 after Saturday still their loss.

Good news regarding Pitman and Pugh but I can't help feeling a bit sorry for Wes Thomas. Goes out on loan, finds some form, gets recalled and doesn't get a game or even a sub appearance. Personally I think the rumours regarding a clash between Tubbs and Thomas must be true and the only way that Wes can escape his misery is to put in a transfer request. Luckily, he impressed a certain Mr Appleton and could be on his way to bigger and better things. AFCB are never going to admit they overpaid for Tubbs so it seems that Wes has become the "fall guy". It's a shame but I guess things like this happen in football. If and when you do go Wes, good luck to you and bang a few in just to remind the doubters down here!

The Club has been trying to get Bret Pitman for weeks, long before Eddie and Jason returned. The real bonus is that they know how to handle him and to get the best from him. He didn't fail in the Championship, he had a good goal to game ratio when he got on the pitch, but his face didn't fit. We have ten strikers on the books now - clearly Fletcher is in his last Season as a player, Stockley, is one for the future, Thomas will probably go to Blackpool ( and good luck to him -he always tried hard) Barnard back to Southampton, of the six left the questions must be about Demouge and Sheringham, will they ever be fit and and are they good enough. Is Pitman, match fit? he may play in the Reserve match today and be on the bench on Saturday, with Tubbs. Suspect that Eddie will stick with Barnard and Grabban for the Bury match though. Interesting times though. As for the gate last night, there are many who struggle to get to one game a fortnight and two in four days is unaffordable for them and the weather wouldn't have helped either. We live in hard times and Christmas is approaching fast. Three pretty tough away games to come and the Cherries wont be at home until the 15th December.

Can't see how anyone can make a judgement on Sheringham or DEmouge until they are given a run in the side.
I always thought Sheringham looked the part but he's been out for so long. However, I've great hopes for Demouge and the man to partner him would have been Tubbs but now Pitman is here.......?

I didn't make any judgement on either, as you rightly say until they are fit and play, we will never known how good or bad, they are. But with Pitman, Tubbs, Grabban and McQoid in situ, realy can't see them getting games, if Pitman shews anything like his old form. I never remember him scoring "tap ins" they always seemed a bit special - like "le God" never ordinary goals for them

Play-offs by Christmas and top by Easter and the only thing that could stop us storming this league is a disgruntled squad but come january EH will have that sorted,I have total faith in this team and their ability and with brett replacing barnard that will mean more goals, we are simply the best-in this league by a country mile-Premiership here we come as anything blackpool can do we can do.”I believe-do you?

no place for Tubbs with Pitman back but Im sure he will fit in to another team and be a success and I have to say its embarassing watching a 800,000 player running up and down the touchline but I wish him all the best.
